Pretty trick.

Yep, gotta love it when they start comparing our financial situation to the 70s. Yep, inflation, energy crisis, woot woot. Bernanke gets a little gloomy. Oil prices fell due to lack of demand and the airlines are in financial trouble.

I’m sure everyone has seen this but just in case you haven’t.

So I’m sitting there watching TV the other night and I flip it to the Lord of War with Nicolas Cage. I start watching it and as I have been doing the past few years I wiki it to see what the history behind the film is. I find out that it is loosely based on Victor Bout, a Russian arms dealers from the 80s and 90s. Interesting, I start following some of his links and what his history has done (typical web surfing session for me). This leads me to all sorts of interesting things including Charles Taylor, the former president of Liberia. The little excerpt about his dealings with Pat Robertson caught my eye. Now, obviously televangelists are out to get people’s money. I get that, how does that saying go about a fool and his money? But seriously, here is a guy who, bilks people out of their money in the name of the Lord, uses it under false pretenses to help privately fund genocide in a gold mining scheme and then is blocked from any prosecution by the Attorney General of Virginia? Is this real? Here are a few more articles from CNN,  the Washington Post, and CBS News.

Yeah, I guess it’s hard to arrest someone that gives money to your campaign.

And then we have Mr. Karl Rove. Karl (and Mr. Bush) has decided that he doesn’t have to deal with those nitpicky subpoena’s. Yeah….ok, I need to find some friends in higher places so I can not show up for court when I get my next speeding ticket. Or maybe I can finally just blow off jury duty. Yeah, that’s the ticket.

Seriously, I can’t make this stuff up. It’s like I’m living in a dream world of apathy.

We’ve hit the financial perfect storm. The war on terror (or whatever you want to call it) has us in a 9.5 trillion dollar deficit. America is in a housing crisis like never seen before. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are into mortgages for 5 trillion that the U.S. (oh yeah, that’s us) are going to have to bail out (not including IndyMac, Bear Stearns and who knows what bank is next). Combine that with gas prices that are through the roof (based of course on speculation), rising unemployment, new construction downturn, and of course since the bank’s have blown their credibility on crappy mortgages, we now have a credit crisis where no one can get funding to do any projects anyway. Of course this is the government that did such a knock down awesome job with Katrina, right? Yeah, I’m nervous, how about you?

Yeah, it’s been awhile. Been busy. Not sure who still checks this but I’ll update it anyways. House is going, I’ll post some pics sometime this week. I haven’t been racing since Hangtown. I have a ton of links and stuff I’ll try and get later. Yes, I’m still alive out here.
